A gaming niche edit is a contextual do-follow link added to an existing, already-indexed article on a gaming or entertainment publication, rather than a fresh guest post that has never had a reader. Gaming is one of the few high-value verticals that is not restricted, and that single fact should decide what you pay. Published 2026 rate cards put an ordinary link insertion between $60 and $400, and gaming sits inside that band rather than above it. If a vendor quotes you $500 or more for a placement on an esports site, they are pricing a category label rather than the actual supply.

The confusion is worth money to the people selling it. Gaming and iGaming share four letters and almost nothing else. Google's advertising policy does not classify by the word gaming at all; it applies a test. Online non-casino games played for a prize where the outcome is not determined wholly or in part by an element of chance need no certification whatsoever. The moment chance decides the outcome, or the reward carries real-world value, the same product lands in the gambling category with its licensing, its certification forms and its 2 to 5 times pricing. A video game studio, an esports organization and a peripherals brand all fall on the unrestricted side of that line, and should be bought accordingly.

BacklinkPlace changes the supply side rather than the outreach side. We own and operate the gaming, tech and entertainment portals in the network, so there is no pitch to a stranger's editor that goes unanswered and no order that dies three weeks after you paid for it. You filter the network by niche, Domain Rating and live Google Analytics organic traffic, read the actual host article your link will sit inside, and order the insertion. We write the surrounding paragraph so the mention reads as editorial, publish it with FTC sponsored disclosure, and send a live-link report.

This page covers the gaming and entertainment side of the network: where your product actually sits under the 2026 rules, what supply exists by sub-vertical, and what a placement should point at. If you want the mechanics of the tactic rather than the vertical, niche edits explains what a link insertion is. If you run a real-money casino or sportsbook, none of the pricing here applies to you and casino link building is the right page.

01

Unrestricted rates, not a casino tax

Gaming needs no advertising certification and no local license, so the publisher pool is deep and the price should reflect that. We quote gaming at ordinary placement rates because that is what the supply actually costs.

02

You read the host page first

Before you order you see the exact article your link goes into, its Domain Rating and its live Google Analytics organic traffic. Not a DR band, not a promised range, the specific page.

03

Sub-vertical relevance inside gaming

A peripherals brand on a mobile-puzzle article is a weak match. We place by sub-vertical, so hardware lands in hardware and review context and an esports org lands beside competitive coverage.

04

Built for seasonal calendars

Gaming coverage spikes around launches and event schedules. Because we own the portals, a placement can go live against a launch window instead of arriving a month after the news cycle closed.

05

Per placement, no retainer

Order one insertion or thirty. The agencies quoting gaming at restricted-vertical rates usually attach a monthly minimum on top. There is no floor here and no contract term.

06

Disclosed and defensible

Every placement carries clear FTC sponsored disclosure and sits on a portal with real readers we can show you the analytics for. No PBNs, no expired-domain networks, no promise of a specific Google position.

Where your product actually sits

Gaming or gambling: the test Google actually applies in 2026.

Almost every overpriced gaming quote traces back to one mistake, which is classifying by the word gaming instead of by the rule. Google does not have a gaming category. It has a test built on two questions: does chance determine the outcome, and does the reward carry real-world value. The table maps common gaming business types onto that test and onto the publisher supply each one really faces. Policy wording read at the Google Ads gambling and games policy on 3 September 2026.

Gaming business type How the 2026 ad rules classify it Certification needed Supply and realistic link cost
Video game studio, esports org, hardware or peripherals brand Outside gambling entirely. Google allows online non-casino games played for a prize where the outcome is not determined wholly or in part by an element of chance, with no certification at all. None Deepest supply in the vertical. Ordinary unrestricted rates, roughly $150 to $400 on a DR 30 to 50 host.
Skill-based tournament or cash-prize competition platform Still non-casino while skill decides the result, but fantasy sports and anything requiring a local license are carved out and do need certification. Sometimes, by product and state Good supply. This is the type most often misfiled as gambling by vendors and quoted a premium it does not owe.
Social casino game with no real prize Defined as online simulated gambling-style games where there is no opportunity to win something of value. Ads must carry age disclaimers and state plainly that no real-money gambling or real-world prize is offered. Yes, social casino certification Narrower than gaming, wider than casino. Expect a premium over pure gaming but nothing like sportsbook rates.
Affiliate or aggregator for social casino games Google prohibits promotion of aggregators and affiliates for social casino games outright. There is no certificate that opens this one. Not available at any price Thin. With paid search closed as a category, organic search carries essentially the entire acquisition load.
Game using virtual currency or in-game items with real-world value Inside the gambling definition. Google lists online gambling games played with virtual currencies or items that have real-world value as gambling content. Yes, gambling certification Restricted supply and restricted pricing, commonly 2 to 5 times mainstream. Many publishers decline regardless of price.
Real-money casino, sportsbook or poker room Gambling. Staking something of value on an outcome determined by an element of chance with the opportunity to win something of value. Yes, plus a valid local license per targeted region Narrowest supply on the open web. Priced and sourced separately from everything above.

Two details from the 26 August 2026 update are worth planning around. Google revised the certification forms so all new applicants must use the current versions, and a single Google Ads account cannot hold an online gambling certification and a social casino game certification at the same time. A studio operating both product lines therefore needs separate accounts before it needs more links. Destination sites in the certified categories must also display an age warning, addiction resources, terms and conditions, and a footer carrying the licensee name, license number and privacy policy. If you are on the restricted side of the line, pricing and supply sit on casino link building and gambling link building.

What it should cost

Published link insertion rates that gaming can actually buy at.

Because gaming is unrestricted, it prices like the general market rather than like a restricted vertical. These are published vendor rate cards, re-verified at each vendor on 3 September 2026. Read the spread rather than the midpoint: the same nominal product ranges from $60 to $400 depending entirely on what the number buys.

Vendor Link insertion rate Pricing basis Takes gaming
Rhino Rank $60 RD 20-100, $85 RD 100-250, $100 RD 250-500, $132.50 RD 500+, $210 RD 1000+ Referring domains, not Domain Rating. Target 14 to 21 days Yes, and keeps gambling and adult on separate webmaster networks from mainstream inventory
Loganix $200 multi-topic edit, $400 true niche edit Topical match, roughly 3 weeks, 6-month replacement Yes for gaming. Refuses casino and gambling outright, in its words no pharma, adult, casino/gambling
SEOButler $190 DR30, $230 DR40, $280 DR50 DR bands, 15 days, 12-month free replacement Yes
Stellar SEO $225 One flat rate for every niche edit, no self-serve ordering Yes
Editorial.Link From $375 per link Explicitly not tied to DA bands Yes
Market surveys Ahrefs benchmark average $361.44 against a competing survey near $141 Two 2026 surveys of the same market disagreeing by more than 2x Not applicable

That Rhino Rank detail is the clearest structural evidence available that gaming and iGaming are different supply pools rather than different price points on one pool: the gambling inventory is a physically separate network of webmasters. Loganix points the same way from the other direction, accepting gaming at $200 to $400 while declining casino at any price. Adsy, surveying 52,671 sites in February 2026, also found listed prices run roughly four times what deals actually close at, which is the likeliest reconciliation of those two survey averages. Our own band-by-band breakdown sits on niche edit pricing.

Placement targeting

Publisher supply by gaming sub-vertical, and what the link should point at.

Gaming is not one audience, and supply varies more inside it than most buyers expect. A placement budget that works for a peripherals brand will not fill for a modding tool. The table maps each sub-vertical to the supply it really faces and to the page on your site worth pointing the link at.

Sub-vertical Publisher supply What the edit should target
Gaming hardware and peripherals Deepest supply of any gaming segment, because it overlaps tech and consumer review media as well as gaming press Product and comparison pages that already convert, not the homepage
Esports organizations and tournaments Good and strongly seasonal. Coverage clusters around event calendars, so timing beats volume Team, roster, event and ticketing pages
Game studios and title launches Strong in a launch window, thin between releases. Plan placements against the release schedule The title page and its press or media kit
Game servers, hosting and infrastructure Moderate, reached mostly through tech and hosting publishers rather than gaming media Pricing pages and per-game hosting pages
Mobile and casual games Moderate and heavily app-store driven, so editorial coverage is a smaller share of discovery App landing pages and guide content
Gaming affiliate and review sites Moderate and the hardest sell in the vertical, because you are asking a publisher to link what it treats as a competitor Buying guides and long-form reviews rather than the homepage
Entertainment, streaming and creator media Good, and it overlaps gaming supply closely. Much of the audience arrives through creators rather than search Show, channel and campaign pages
Game modding and community tools Thin on traditional media, deep on forums and community sites where a paid insertion usually is not the right instrument Tool and documentation pages

The pattern across the table is that gaming supply is wide but time-sensitive, which is the opposite of the restricted verticals where supply is narrow and timing barely matters. That argues for ordering placements against a calendar rather than in one bulk block. Entertainment, streaming and creator media sit close enough to gaming in publisher terms that we serve entertainment niche edits from the same inventory rather than splitting them onto a thinner page of their own. For a broader program across formats rather than insertions alone, link building service covers the mix.

FAQ

Common questions.

Expect roughly $150 to $400 for a quality placement on a DR 30 to 50 gaming host in 2026. Gaming is unrestricted, so it prices in the medium-competition band rather than the $300 to $2,000 restricted band that covers gambling, finance and healthcare. Published vendor rates for link insertions currently run from $60 at Rhino Rank to $400 at Loganix.

Gaming means video games, esports, hardware and the media around them, and it needs no advertising certification. iGaming means wagering real money, which requires certification and a local license, and most publishers refuse it by blanket policy. The practical gap is price and supply: gaming buys at ordinary rates from a deep pool, iGaming commonly runs 2 to 5 times higher from a narrow one.

Generally no. Google allows online non-casino games played for a prize where the outcome is not determined wholly or in part by an element of chance, with no certification. Certification starts once chance decides the outcome, the reward carries real-world value, or the product is a social casino game or fantasy sports offering. A standard video game or esports brand sits outside all of that.

Not by the rules, but often by vendors. An esports organization selling tickets and merchandise is an ordinary entertainment business under Google policy. The overlap arises because esports betting exists as a separate product. If a vendor routes an esports brief into restricted inventory, you are paying a gambling premium for supply you never needed.

Not on the same terms. Social casino games are simulated gambling-style games with no opportunity to win something of value, and they still require certification plus age disclaimers in advertising. Publisher willingness sits between gaming and real-money casino. Affiliates and aggregators for social casino games are prohibited from advertising outright, so those sites depend almost entirely on organic search.

Editorial coverage on established gaming and tech publications, review and buying-guide placements that match the product, event and tournament coverage for esports brands, and original data such as hardware benchmarks or player statistics that other writers cite. Relevance at the sub-vertical level beats raw Domain Rating, because a peripherals link on a mobile-games article is a weak topical match.

Count referring domains to the specific page you want to rank rather than to the whole domain, then compare against the pages already holding that term. The median page-one result across the web carries 907 referring domains, but that figure swings enormously by vertical, from 76 in apparel to 3,027 in finance. Gaming sits nearer the middle, and a steady program aimed at one page cluster beats a burst aimed at the homepage.

Undisclosed paid links that pass ranking credit are, in every niche. Sponsored editorial content with clear disclosure, published on sites with genuine audiences, is ordinary media practice. The line that matters is whether the placement is real content on a real publication or one more identical post in a footprint of sites built to sell links. Our screen is on buy niche edits.

Insertions win when the host already has an indexed, trafficked article on the topic, which is common in gaming because the press covers launches and hardware continuously. Guest posts win when you need to control the full narrative around a launch. Most gaming programs run both, weighted toward insertions between releases. The comparison sits on guest posts vs niche edits.
