The best cannabis link building service is the one that will actually publish a dispensary or CBD link, on a host with real readers, at a price you can see before you order. Vendors that specialize in cannabis publish rates of about $150 to $500 per link in 2026, turnaround runs from one week to six, and most of the agencies ranking for this search do not publish a price at all.
We run a publisher network of our own and sell cannabis placements, so we are one of the options below. Every price carries its source and the month we read it. Where another vendor fits a dispensary or a CBD brand better than we do, we say so.
The price premium in this vertical has one cause: most publishers refuse the topic. A lifestyle or wellness blog that happily links to a yoga mat store will decline a dispensary by policy, because its ad network, its payment processor or its own lawyer told it to. OutreachPete says it plainly on its own cannabis page: some bloggers are reluctant to publish on marijuana, and that reluctance is why the rate runs higher than its standard link building.
Paid search makes the problem worse. Google Ads and Meta restrict cannabis and most CBD advertising, so the whole industry competes for the same organic rankings, and organic rankings are decided largely by links. A category with scarce willing publishers and no paid alternative is the textbook setup for expensive links.
The US adds a legal split that most vendor pages ignore. Hemp-derived CBD with no more than 0.3 percent delta-9 THC is federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, so a CBD brand ships nationally and competes on national result pages. Marijuana is licensed state by state, so a dispensary competes on local pages in the states where it holds a license. A link that helps one of those buyers can be wasted on the other.
We read the two best-known lists ranking for this search. One names 18 cannabis link building companies and publishes a price for none of them. Another names eleven CBD vendors and finds that only four publish a rate. So the table below is limited to vendors whose price we could read on their own site in September 2026, plus the one policy question that decides most cannabis purchases: can you see the host before you pay? Rate cards move, so re-check before you sign.
| Service | Model | Published price | Turnaround | See the host first? | Where it wins |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cannabis Link Building (San Marcos, California) | Guest posts, niche edits and link insertions, cannabis only | $150 at DR 20+, $250 at DR 30+, $350 at DR 40+, $500 at DR 60+, per link, 750+ word articles | 2 weeks stated on every tier | Not stated on the pricing page | A US vendor with a clear per-link ladder and no minimum order |
| Mary Jane Links | Niche edits, in-house guest posts and bundled packages for cannabis, CBD, hemp and vape | Niche edits $480 for 3 at DR 30+ ($160 a link), up to $1,920 for 12; in-house guest posts at DR 5 to 15 from $105 for a pack of 3; package prices not listed | 30 business days | No. Their FAQ says it is done for you and they select the sites | The cheapest DR 30+ niche edit we found from a cannabis-only vendor, and an explicit statement that the links are not PBNs |
| OutreachPete | Manual outreach, a new article written for each link | $297 at DA 20 to 34, $340 at DA 35 to 44, $480 at DA 45+ | 14 to 28 days | You choose the URL and anchor, not the site | Published organic traffic floors on each tier: 100, 300 and 500 visits a month |
| Vettted | A marketplace of vetted third-party link vendors | Niche edits from $25 (no traffic floor) to $500 at DR 60+; $120 at DR 30+, $160 at DR 40+ | 10 to 14 days | No. Their niche edit page says they do not offer pre-approval of specific URLs | The widest price ladder and fast delivery, but it does not publish a cannabis policy, so confirm acceptance before you order |
| BacklinkPlace | A publisher network we own and operate | $161 to $199 per placement depending on volume | About a week, because there is no editor to persuade | Yes. You read the portal, its Domain Rating and its live Google Analytics traffic before ordering | Acceptance is settled before you pay. We do not claim DR 60+ authority |
Two patterns stand out. First, at DR 30 and above the published prices all sit between $120 and $500 per link, which is narrow for link building. The real cost difference sits in turnaround and in how much control you get over the host. Second, the vendors that let you approve the site are the exception. In a category where a bad host can put a YMYL site at risk, that control is worth more than a lower sticker price.
Cannabis link building costs roughly $150 to $500 per link from cannabis specialists that publish a price, based on rate cards we read in September 2026. Managed cannabis SEO agencies usually quote custom monthly retainers instead. Industry surveys put the whole restricted band, which includes cannabis, gambling and finance, at $300 to $2,000 per quality link, against $100 to $500 in ordinary niches.
For a working budget, a dispensary or CBD brand buying three to five links a month at DR 30 to 40 will spend somewhere between $500 and $1,700 a month on placements alone, before content. Our own rates and the cross-vertical bands are on niche edit pricing.
A dispensary should look for links on sites read by people in its licensed state, pointed at location and menu pages, from a vendor that names the host before payment. National authority matters less than local relevance for a store that can only sell within state lines. Ask every vendor for three sample hosts and check their organic traffic before signing anything.
The local layer comes first. Licensed dispensary directories, state industry associations, local news and community sponsorships are the baseline every competitor has. Paid editorial placements are what separate a dispensary from the three others within the same few miles, and they work best once the listings and the location pages are already in place. Being findable where shoppers look for a licensed dispensary near them is part of the same local footprint, and it earns referral visits on top of the link.
A CBD brand selling nationally needs authority on product and category pages that compete with large wellness retailers, so traffic floors and host relevance matter more than geography. Look for health, wellness, fitness and lifestyle hosts with verifiable organic traffic, and avoid any host that carries medical claims about CBD, because Google grades the topic under its Your Money or Your Life standard.
CBD brands are also the most common target for bulk vape and CBD link packages sold on expired domains. They are cheap for a reason. A package of twenty links from sites with no readers can do more harm than a single placement on a real publication with an audience.
No. Private blog network links are a link scheme under Google's spam policies in every niche, and cannabis sites are reviewed more closely because the topic is graded as Your Money or Your Life. Some marketplaces sell PBN packages openly and redact the URLs in the report. If a vendor will not tell you where your link sits, assume you are buying the risk along with the link.
The practical screen takes five minutes. Check the host's organic traffic trend over the last year, count its outbound links against its inbound links (a ratio worse than about 4 to 1 usually means the site exists to sell links), and read two or three recent articles to see whether a human editor is involved. Our guide to cannabis SEO backlinks covers which link sources are worth pursuing before paid placements.
Expect movement on the target page six to twelve weeks after a link is indexed, and three to six months for a sustained lift on competitive terms. Cannabis Link Building gives the same three to six month window on its own site. Add delivery time to that: a 30 business day turnaround means the clock does not start until six weeks after you pay.
That delay is why timing matters in this vertical. A dispensary opening a new location or a CBD brand launching a product line should start placing links two to three months ahead, not the week the page goes live.
Largely no. Google Ads prohibits advertising for recreational marijuana products and restricts CBD advertising to limited cases and locations, and Meta applies similar limits. That leaves organic search as the main acquisition channel for most US cannabis operators, which is exactly why links in this vertical are priced the way they are. Budget that would go to paid search elsewhere tends to end up in content and links here.
A multi-state operator or a large CBD brand that wants an agency to run the whole plan, including content and technical SEO, should shortlist a managed cannabis agency and ask for a written quote. A dispensary or CBD brand that wants a steady run of relevant links at a known price, on hosts it can check first, is better served by a per-link vendor or an owned network. A brand-new site with no ranking pages should fix content and local listings first and buy links second.
If owned inventory is the fit, cannabis niche edits and CBD link building covers how we place for dispensaries, hemp and CBD brands and ancillary businesses. Pick the portal, read its traffic, and order a single placement to test the fit before you commit to volume. If you sell into other restricted verticals too, the same comparison for crypto is in best crypto link building services.
